Hypnotherapy helps emetophobia in Cornwall…

Is it possible to overcome emetophobia?

Yes – it is possible to get much more control over your reactions to illness and other peoples illness.

Very often people with emetophobia find it falls into two areas; fear of being sick themselves, and fear of being around or in contact with anyone who has been sick/ill. Also if they hear of someone they’ve never met being ill. All aspects of the phobia have to be treated separately for maximum recovery.

It is very difficult for people to overcome it on their own as it is a subconscious response. The conscious mind can realise it’s being totally irrational and yet still the anxiety continues to be high and overwhelming. This is why a therapy which addresses the subconscious is most effective in it’s treatment.

Is emetophobia an obsession?

Sufferers often experience this phobia as an obsession although technically it is a phobia. The term obsessions refers to a thought which continually preoccupies or intrudes on a persons mind, without their control. Any phobia can become an obsession, but generally they only come to mind when the issue arises. Like when they see a spider or go over a high bridge. The rest of the time it’s forgotten. People with emetophobia often find it’s the first thought in the morning, the last at night before sleep and pretty constant all day – that’s an obsession and a phobia.

If it’s an obsession then the need for change is even greater because of the huge impact it has on quality of life and peace of mind. It requires an experienced therapist who fully understands this condition to help make the important changes needed to get control back of your mind.

Here’s a recent review from a client…

I initially reached out to Julie for help with emetophobia which was becoming more and more debilitating. However as a long term sufferer of generalised anxiety, on my first session with Julie I soon realised that she could help me with this as well. I had previously tried talking therapies for anxiety which were unsuccessful.

Julie’s guidance, advice and treatment changed the way I felt about my mental health completely and from the first session I felt understood and at ease. Within a few sessions I saw a positive change to my mental health.

Seeing Julie has changed my life and was the best decision I made. I am so grateful for the help she has given me. Thank you! HARRIET
