How does Hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy works by using your subconscious brain to help you achieve the goals you want. We generally dont have access to this, just the conscious part, but if the subconscious is not onside, change is very difficult. Hypnotherapy helps with a wide range of issues, and gets you back on top of things.  It enables you to use your mind to help you – rather than sabotage you with doubts, fears, worry and self criticism.  I have extensive experience of supporting people through change and enjoy working with adults, young people and children, as well as people with addictionsautism , dementia and carers.

What is trance or hypnosis like?

We are all familiar with trance and go in and out of it naturally many times each day when driving or watching tv.  It’s that state when you are drifting off to sleep or daydreaming – perfectly natural.  You remain fully conscious and in complete control throughout.  During trance the brain becomes more receptive to suggestions which supports making the changes you want. Hypnotherapy uses a light trance to aid information processing which results in increased focus and concentration.  Trance work helps rewire your brain to make the positive changes you want.

What happens in the first session?

The first session really starts the whole process of change.  We talk about what you want to gain from sessions and I get a little background information. Then I explain simply how the brain works and how I’ll help you get back on top of things. People usually start making progress immediately, from the very first session.   The trance work starts in the second session and the future sessions are all split between talking and trance work.   Full commitment is important for success and you must want to make the changes you seek.

BWRT now available too…

I have now qualified as a BWRT psychotherapist – which is Brain Working Recursive Therapy. This is completely unrelated to hypnotherapy and often works even faster than hypnotherapy. Invented by Terence Watts in 2013 this psychotherapy is particularly effective for phobia’s, fears, PTSD and changing a response to a situation. Sessions are also one hour long and cost the same as hypnotherapy.


Sessions cost £60 and last 45-55 minutes. Quit smoking sessions take up to two hours and cost £140. Children’s sessions may be shorter, depending on their age and attention span.

My practice is on the first floor, and if this is an issue I can arrange to use a downstairs room.

How to pay

Payment is due on the day of the session, either by BACS direct payment or by cash. Further details will be given when the session is arranged.
