How are addictions created?

Addictions occur when the mind becomes obsessed with having something.  The subconscious decides this thing meets our needs so well that it will take control of it, so our conscious mind doesn’t have to worry about it anymore.  The problem is then our ability to control it is removed.  So getting it back under our conscious control is really tough.  Hypnotherapy works on the subconscious to help change this thought pattern.

Whatever the addiction – alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, hair cutting etc – the effect is the same; it takes over and gets out of our control.  Addictions are a constant burden – we try to meet the needs of the addiction while also trying to appear ‘normal’ and in control.  It’s exhausting and stressful and can feel hopeless and lonely.  I understand how addictions work and will help reprogram your subconscious and give you tools to beat it, so please contact me.

How does hypnotherapy help you overcome your addiction?

  • it gives a new message to your subconscious mind about alcohol/addiction
  • provides you with tools to overcome cravings
  • increases focus and control over your thoughts and subsequent behaviour
  • by using suggestion techniques to help your brain to re-program itself
  • discussing the truth of it’s consequences for you strengthens the focus on change
  • by providing a positive, supportive environment which reinforces your strengths

There is a way of getting control back of your mind and your life and it will take some effort to achieve, even with hypnotherapy – you will have to use some energy and be committed to it, but it really can be done. The more determined you are to succeed – the more successful you will be and the easier it is.  Hypnotherapy uses techniques to give new messages to your subconscious mind during trance, to enable you to take control back.  The number of sessions needed depends on several factors – like the length of time you have had the issue and it’s severity.

We accidentally programme ourselves to follow an addiction by repeatedly doing the same thing because the brain learns by repetition and it feels safe. Then add in the belief that because it’s known to be addictive then it’s out of our control, and we have a challenge to change it on our own.

What’s hypnotherapy like for alcohol use/addiction?

Hypnotherapy is a fully conscious, deep relaxation where the mind is more able to take on positive suggestions. It enables the change of thought patterns and habits.  The sessions are part conversation and part trance, which is when you get to lie back, relax and listen to my voice as I guide your subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy will help change that programme in your mind, like putting new software into your computer. This will allow you to create new habits, behaviours and thought patterns, to enable you to get back in control. You will only make the changes you want so you are very much in control of your progress.

We begin by looking at your habit and the reasons behind it, and taking a look at its consequences in your life.  This focuses the mind on the need to change.  Then you’ll think about your goals for change.  Hypnotherapy helps to boost your motivation and break the old beliefs that kept you stuck.  I will explain how addictions are created in the brain and give you a number of tools to use to support you in overcoming your addiction.

At the same time the trance work reinforces the need to take control by effectively providing alternative ways of thinking.  It’s a powerful and important journey because it will make such a difference to your life and your physical health.  Health is greatly affected by stress and trying to control or hide an addiction is highly stressful.

The benefits of breaking free from your addiction;

  • you’ll feel happier and have more joy in your life
  • you’ll have room for new relationships and activities you enjoy
  • you will feel more positive about yourself, now you are back in control – your self esteem will sky rocket
  • you’ll be a positive role model to your children and others around you, which will impact on their decisions about how they live their lives
  • you’ll save money, because most addictions are expensive
  • you’ll feel much calmer and more balanced, without the constant nagging stress of managing your addiction

I would 100% Recommend Julie. I came to Julie and Hypnotherapy after trying other means to regain control of alcohol; it was the best decision I made. Julie really explains how the brain works and gives you the tools to take away to help, and for me, the change started straight away and I’m not looking back! Thank you!  SHARON

*Thank you, thank you and thank you. After only 1 session* with you; I have been transformed. 4 months on, and not a drop of alcohol has touched my lips; I am unbelievably amazed how this has happened, and so are my friends and family.

I must admit, I was sceptical about hypnotherapy before I came to see you. I thought hypnotherapy was all about putting people to sleep; like you see on TV.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Your time, patience, understanding and non-judgemental approach, has given me insight into how my old weekend drinking habits, affected both my physical and mental health. You have given me a new pair of glasses to view my life through, and a big bag of confidence to make positive changes within it.  I am truly grateful for your advice and support; I will be recommending you to all that I meet. JENNIFER*

I would just to say that I’ve found hypnotherapy with Julie very helpful and calming, and would not hesitate to recommend it with her. TERESA

*This person (Jennifer) did not have a major addiction, hence she could be treated in one 2hr session.  It usually takes a number of sessions, which varies depending on time addicted and severity.
