We all experience loss at some point in our lives. When we lose someone we love it is a devastating experience. Our minds have got used to the routine of life, the giving and receiving of affection and attention, the sharing of our lives. So when something happens and we lose someone we love the whole balance of our life changes. We are left feeling bereft and confused.  There is advice and support available from various voluntary organisations like Cruse, for example.

Loss is a natural part of life but it is such a major event that it often sends people spiraling into emotional turmoil. People sometimes become depressed, stressed, anxious, lose sleep, drink alcohol or turn to food, as a response to the loss and the lack of normality in their life. We need to release the feelings of sadness and distress to enable us to cope with life, today and the in future.  Sometimes people get stuck in their grief and struggle to think of anything else, years or decades after the event.

How does hypnotherapy help with grief or loss?

Hypnotherapy enables you to create new habits and thought patterns in your mind which will enable you to let go of the constant thoughts of the person you have lost. This will enable you to achieve some level of acceptance. Hypnotherapy helps to change the way you feel about the situation so you can face life, feel more positive, and find your own unique new ways forward.  There needs to be a period of time before hypnotherapy should be used, to allow for natural grieving to occur, which hypnotherapy shouldn’t interfere with.  If you are considering hypnotherapy for grief please call or email me to discuss if the time is right for you.

When is the right time to seek help after a loss?

Opinions vary on how long is the right time before seeking help. For some people it is two or three years, for others much less than that. Every one is different and experiences grief and loss in their own way and at their own pace. Grief is a natural process and hypnotherapy cannot be used to bypass it completely. It can be used to support you in finding your way through to the next positive stage of your life.
